Countoff is made by people who marched, taught, arranged and judged in this activity, and who believe the tools should finally be as good as the performances.
Most of us have a version of the same memory: a dot book printed the night before camp, a coordinate sheet PDF forwarded four times, a judge’s tape on a memory card that nobody had time to listen to until the next contest. The art form became cinematic. The pipeline behind it stayed in 2005.
We started Countoff to connect that pipeline end to end: the drill a designer writes, the dot a fifteen-year-old reads on a phone, the music they rehearse to, and the feedback a judge gives at 9:40 on a Saturday night. One workspace, on the devices people already have.
We also started it at the moment it became possible to build a platform that listens and reads. A judge tape can be transcribed with the vocabulary of the activity and aligned to the drill by count. A photographed coordinate sheet can become editable drill. A season of comments can be summarised into a rehearsal plan. That is what we mean by AI-native: the AI is in the workflow, not a chatbot bolted onto an old program.
The drill studio started life as Drill3D and keeps that name. It is the engine every show on Countoff is built with; Countoff is everything around it, from the rehearsal room to the results page.
What we believe
Students first
Performer accounts are free on every plan and the dot book works with no signal. Nothing about the platform should be a barrier for a kid on a bus.
Feedback is sensitive
Judge tapes and student data are private by default. Directors decide who sees what, and wider sharing is always a deliberate choice.
You own your data
Shows, audio, tapes and scores can be exported at any time as ordinary files. There is no lock-in and no export fee.
The activity’s vocabulary
Dots read the way section leaders say them. Transcripts know what a cover-down is. We will always build from inside the activity.
Why a closed beta
We are onboarding a small number of programs at a time so every ensemble gets a real person on the other end during the season. If that sounds like your program, tell us about it.
